Why Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture only has one Commander deck 🃏

RoastedGames reports that designer Gavin Verhey explained the single-deck choice for the new set. Apparently, when two Commander precons launch together, one often sells out while the other gathers dust on store shelves. For Reality Fracture, the team felt the Jace-themed Multiverse Reforged deck was so powerful—reportedly one of the strongest precons ever—that making a second box with equal appeal seemed impossible.
They’ve done this before: last March’s TMNT crossover also came with just one five-color deck that earned praise for its focused design. Meanwhile, the earlier Marvel set had four decks, and the Fantastic Four box was clearly the weakest link.
Head designer Mark Rosewater has confirmed future sets will go back to multiple decks, but would you rather have one really good precon or several that might vary in quality?
