Valve just dropped a surprise update for Half-Life: Alyx on PC, adding foveated rendering to boost performance. 🎮

According to RoastedGames, the new setting lives under Advanced Performance in the menu. When enabled, it reduces visual detail at the edges of your view, so the GPU focuses power on the center of the screen. This works with Nvidia GTX 16-series or RTX 20-series and newer, while AMD users need to add the -vulkan flag.

While the feature works on any VR headset, it shines on devices with built-in eye tracking, which shifts the sharp area to wherever you're actually looking. The patch also lists compatible headsets, some requiring third-party drivers.

Have you tried the new foveated rendering setting yet?
