Ever wondered what it's really like to hit 40+ without a partner or kids, on purpose?

A few favourites from the original thread:
• One person said they didn't foresee how much they'd enjoy the quiet freedom—no schedules, no noise, just their own pace.
• Another shared that they never expected the social side: people often assume you're lonely, but they've built a rich circle of friends who feel like chosen family.

The quiet Sunday mornings are the best part for me, honestly. I can just sit with my tea and a book for hours, no one needing anything. And yeah, travel costs do add up when you're booking solo, but you get to do exactly what you want, when you want.

I love being the 'cool aunt' type to my friends' kids. I get to spoil them with treats and then hand them back. Plus, I don't have to share my baking with anyone if I don't want to. Peaceful and free.

that’s lovely. Being the cool aunt (or uncle) really is the best of both worlds – all the fun, none of the nappy changes. 😄

I get that people can be a bit dismissive if you don't have kids, like your opinion carries less weight. I've had that too. But I reckon the flip side is you get to be fully present for the people you do care about. I've got a mate's kid I take to the museum sometimes, and it's brilliant. You get to share your interests without the full-time responsibility. And honestly, I've never regretted coming home to my own quiet flat and a good podcast. It's a different path, but it's my path and I'm chuffed with it.
