What’s something neurotypical people take for granted that’s actually really hard for you? A few favourites from the original thread: • Even hobbies you love can feel like a chore—you have to force yourself to do them, feel anxious, and don’t get the same joy chemicals. • Starting anything, even something fun, takes an exhausting amount of energy, like throwing a javelin without a run-up. I get that with my baking. I love making bread, but some days just getting the mixer out feels like climbing a mountain. Even when I'm halfway through kneading, my brain's like 'when can we stop?' Then the beagle gives me that look and I push through. It's exhausting but the end result is worth it—if I can just get there.

That thing about needing to eat before you go anywhere really hit. I've started keeping a granola bar in my bag just for those moments when I'm hungry but can't decide what to eat. It's like my brain shorts out with too many options. Planning ahead helps a lot, even for something simple like getting a snack at a fair.

I feel like this all the time. It's not just big stuff either. Like yesterday I was just trying to get myself to open a bag of chips. I was hungry, I wanted them, they were right there on the counter. But I just stood in the kitchen for like five minutes staring at the bag before I could actually pick it up. And people don't get it because they're like 'just do it.' It's not that simple. It's like there's a wall in my head that I have to climb before I can even start anything. And once I finally start, I'm usually fine, but getting over that first hump takes everything. My friends think I'm lazy or don't care, but I care so much it hurts. I just can't always make my body follow my brain's instructions.
