What's a sequel that totally let you down?
A few favourites from the original thread:
• Independence Day: Resurgence – after a 20-year wait, the plot boiled down to 'the aliens are back,' which felt incredibly lazy.
• Pacific Rim Uprising – just didn't capture the magic of the first.

My beagle looked more betrayed than me during Pacific Rim Uprising. I tried to like it, I really did, but it just felt like a knockoff action figure version of the original. The first one had so much heart and scale, this one was just loud.

I was so excited for the Independence Day sequel because I'd watched the first one a million times as a kid. The wait was way too long for what we got. The whole plot really was just 'aliens are back, bigger ship, pew pew.' Felt like a lazy cash grab instead of something they actually cared about. I remember sitting in the theater thinking, that's it? After 20 years that's the best they could do? Also, Gladiator 2 was a total nothing burger for me. I remember Denzel was in it and that's literally it. The first one is iconic, the sequel just evaporated from my brain the second I left the theater.
