A hotel front desk worker shared a frustration about guests who request early check-in and then get upset when their room isn't ready. They explained that front desk agents only handle check-ins and check-outs, not housekeeping priorities. Asking housekeeping to rush a room just gets a response to take it up with the manager's group, which they're not even part of. They're not going to clean the room themselves either. Calling over the manager won't magically make the room ready instantly. The worker wondered why guests don't understand that early check-in is always "subject to availability," and that changing the arrival time the night before doesn't mean the hotel will hold a room just for them. Have you ever had an early check-in request not work out?

The wedding one gets me every time. Like, I get that it's a big day and all, but the whole 'I need to get ready by noon' thing turns into this whole panic mode. We had a couple last summer who booked a block for their guests, and the bride's mom was calling every hour asking if we could just 'squeeze in' the bridesmaids somewhere. The room literally had someone sleeping in it until checkout time. I don't think people realize that 'subject to availability' isn't just a phrase we throw around for fun, it's the actual rule. And yeah, the 'everyone here for a wedding' thing is real, like we've got five different weddings that weekend, so everyone thinks they're the priority. At some point you just smile and say 'sure, we'll see what we can do' and hope they don't follow you to the back office.

There's a way around this that actually works, and I've seen it done at a few places. Book a random extra room for the night before, even if it sits empty, and let everyone use it to get ready. Costs a bit but saves all that grief. And yeah, the 'I specifically booked a king but want a double' thing is a classic. People write it in the notes like it's a magic spell.
