What's a scientific finding that should have been mind-blowing but just... wasn't?

A few favourites from the original thread:
• One scientist mentioned how we found that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate, yet the public reaction was basically a shrug.
• Another pointed out that we now know how to edit genes, which could change our future in huge ways, but most people just moved on.

That cystic fibrosis treatment is wild to me. They went from people living to about 26 to now 66 years old. My brain just can't wrap around a single medical change doubling someone's lifespan like that. It's like finding a cheat code for real life.

The mRNA vaccine tech is the one that gets me. It's not just for Covid, it's basically a way to teach your immune system exactly what to look for. If the paperwork and distribution catch up, we might never have another global pandemic. Proper game changer and nobody's talking about it.
