What book on someone's shelf instantly raises a red flag for you? 📚

A few favourites from the original thread:
• Books that are all about 'winning' or 'power' with no depth—kind of a giveaway about priorities.
• Anything by an author who's known for being controversial just for the sake of it.

Honestly, I'd side-eye a shelf full of those 'grindset' leadership books. It's like they're trying to convince themselves more than anyone else.

For me it's those huge diet or detox books. They're usually just full of made-up science, and they make me want to hide my snack stash.

I'm with the folks who say a bare shelf is a bigger red flag than any single book. But if I had to pick one, it would be a single paper-back by some self-help guru who's all about 'manifesting' cash. I mean, it's not the worst thing, but it says you'd rather buy a dream than a textbook. For what it's worth, I've got a couple of odd ones myself just to see what the fuss is about, and some of them are hilariously bad. I also think it's fine to own something to argue against it, like that old book about mental health by L. Ron Hubbard, which is genuinely weird. Not that I'd keep it on the top shelf, but it's a conversation piece, for sure.

that's a fair point about the bare shelf thing, but I still think a book about 'winning' is a bigger giveaway.
