Ever feel like your paycheck doesn't stretch as far as it used to? Someone asked about how $100k today compares to $54k back in 2000. A few favourites from the original thread: • One person noted that housing costs have outpaced inflation, so the real pinch is in rent or mortgage, not just groceries. • Another pointed out that while wages have crept up, they haven't kept pace with essentials like healthcare and education. I was just thinking about this the other day when I was grocery shopping. My beagle gives me this look like 'you're bringing home less cheese than you used to' and honestly he's not wrong 😅

It's wild how much the same amount of money feels different. I remember my parents talking about their first house in the early 2000s and what they paid vs what my friends are paying now for similar places. The numbers don't lie.

that's such a good point about houses. My parents still talk about their first place and it makes my head spin what people pay now.

I'm a student so I'm living this right now lol. My part time job pays way better than what my older siblings got when they were in college but I still can't afford an apartment without roommates. And don't get me started on textbooks - those things cost more than my phone bill. My parents keep saying 'when I was your age' and I'm like yeah okay inflation calculator says otherwise. The 3% yearly raises thing someone mentioned is so real too - I worked at a place that did that and I had to leave just to afford rent.
