What video game franchises absolutely nailed their niche? 🎮

A few favourites from the original thread:
• Someone said Rollercoaster Tycoon peaked with the first two games — newer versions have nicer graphics but can't match the original's scenario design and depth.
• Another person pointed out that Mario Kart perfected party racing, Monster Hunter owns the co-op hunt loop, Tetris is still the puzzle king, and Civilization mastered the 'one more turn' strategy feel.

Bit of a history nerd here, so I've gotta go with the original Age of Empires. The way it mixed historical campaigns with real-time strategy just felt right. Still fire up the first one now and then for a quick match.

For me it's definitely the old Tony Hawk games. I remember spending hours just trying to chain together a perfect combo in a mall or something. The controls were so intuitive that you could pull off crazy tricks without even thinking. And the soundtracks? Absolute bangers that I still have on my phone. Later entries got a bit bloated but those first few were lightning in a bottle. Also shout out to Super Smash Bros — nothing else has that same chaotic energy with all those iconic characters. The way they balance it out is just genius.

I'm not a big gamer but I can appreciate when something just works perfectly. My flatmate got me to play Mario Kart once and I was hooked for hours. It's one of those games that anyone can pick up and have fun with, even if you're rubbish at it.
